noush presents her debut album, whimcycle, essaying dogged lyric & chewy composition in ten lovingly crafted songs and accompanying music videos. once, after a gig in an al quoz warehouse, a generous listener posted on facebook that noush sounded like “the love child of a bizarre nick cave, katy perry and jill scott sex triangle who grew up abandoned in a new york warehouse used for def jam poetry nights”. dead pleased by this description, because until then, noush had never been to new york, and it all felt very exotic, so now she continues to copy-paste this blurb, hoping one day to live up to it. she's from dubai actually, and if you grew up in dubai in the 90's, maybe you know about young times, which is where noush first published her poetry and also learned how to draw, by copying other kids' submitted drawings, diligently colouring large filled areas from the top of the page to the bottom, in uniform strokes, just as her brother's best-friend's mother, who appeared to be everybody's art teacher, instructed her, so that the colours wouldn't smudge, even though deep down, noush knew that ordinary colour pencils were too hard to smudge, and she wouldn't experience such delightful catastrophes till after adolescence. these days she is also a practicing visual artist, and you can check out that stuff here

whimcycle IS HER FIRST ALBUM.
